Bodega Salentein was founded in 1996 by Dutch businessman Mijndert Pon. His vision: build an icon winery in Uco Valley combining wine, art and culture. The name comes from a Dutch castle of the Pon family. The winery is today one of Mendoza's most complete wine tourism destinations, with art gallery, chapel, lodge (Posada Salentein) and restaurant.
Visiting Salentein
The wine cathedral. Underground barrel hall arranged as a cross, contemporary art gallery and Killka cultural hub. A complete visit.
A cathedral
in the heart of the Andes.
Bodega Salentein is among the most complete visits in Mendoza. Its main building — a four-wing underground cross with a central nave displaying barrels in sacred arrangement — is one of Argentina's most photographed winery architectures. But Salentein is more than architecture: it features a contemporary art gallery (Killka), an altitude restaurant, and consistently elegant wines that make the day an integral experience.
"Where wine, art and architecture coexist with the same reverence."
Discovery Wine Mendoza · conciergeThe house, its origin.
The place makes the wine.
Salentein vineyards spread across four estates (San Pablo, Los Árboles, La Pampa, El Oasis) at altitudes from 1,050 to 1,700 meters. This diversity allows Salentein to produce from tense high-altitude Chardonnay to structured Malbec. Soils are alluvial with limestone stones and Andean influence is direct: dry mountain wind and marked temperature swings.
The space where it happens.
The Salentein main building is a wine cathedral: a four-wing underground cross with a central nave lit by overhead light, where barrels are arranged in sacred order. It is one of Argentina's most photographed winery architectures. Killka, the adjoining cultural center, houses a contemporary art gallery with museum-quality curation.

The questions we get most.
How much time is needed for the full visit?
How is Killka and is it worth it?
Do they offer on-site lodging?
Is it accessible for reduced mobility?
What makes Salentein different from other Uco Valley wineries?
How we visit
Salentein.
We coordinate the visit within a private Uco Valley wine tour, combining it with another altitude winery. Salentein usually takes the first half of the day given the depth of its experience. We lunch at Killka or a nearby winery as preferred. Discover our luxury wine tour in Mendoza or explore the Uco Valleyregion.
