Mendoza has more than 1,200 wineries. About 200 receive tourists. Of those, only a handful operate at the level of curation and craft that the world's most demanding palates expect. This is our concierge's shortlist.

This isn't a TripAdvisor ranking. It's the wineries we send our most discerning travelers to — exceptional wine, intimate experiences, and access you can't arrange yourself online.

Catena Zapata (Luján de Cuyo)

The Mayan-pyramid winery. Catena is the most internationally recognized name in Argentine wine. Their flagship Malbec Argentino is on every great wine list in the world. The architecture is iconic; the tastings are technical and precise. Best for: serious collectors, first-time visitors.

Zuccardi Valle de Uco (Uco Valley)

Three times named World's Best Vineyard. Brutalist concrete and stone architecture, designed by the family's third generation, with views of the Andes that stop conversation. Their high-altitude Malbecs and the Concreto line have redefined what Uco Valley can produce. Best for: architecture lovers, photographers.

Susana Balbo Wines (Luján de Cuyo)

Susana Balbo is Argentina's first female winemaker and pioneer of Torrontés. Her boutique winery in Agrelo combines feminine elegance with one of Mendoza's most respected restaurants, Osadía de Crear. Best for: history, women-led boutique experiences.

Casa Vigil (Maipú)

The most theatrical winery in Mendoza. Alejandro Vigil — head winemaker of Catena Zapata for years — built his own boutique estate as a tribute to literature and art. Best for: emotion, art lovers, foodies.

Bodega Salentein (Uco Valley)

Cathedral-like winery with underground barrel room arranged in a cross — among the most photographed in Argentina. Contemporary art gallery on-site. Best for: cultural travelers, photographers.

Andeluna Cellars (Uco Valley)

Smaller, less famous, exceptional. Andeluna sits at 1,300 m elevation. Their Pasionado Cabernet Franc is one of the most acclaimed Argentine reds of recent years. Best for: depth over fame.

Bodega Norton (Luján de Cuyo)

Founded in 1895 by an English railway engineer. Historic stone cellars with contemporary winemaking. Their gourmet lunches at La Vid restaurant are reliably excellent. Best for: families, traditionalists.

Domaine Bousquet (Uco Valley)

French heritage at altitude. The Bousquet family came from Carcassonne and built one of Argentina's leading organic and biodynamic wineries. Best for: organic wine, French winemaking lineage.

Bodega Trapiche (Maipú)

The most awarded winery in Argentine history (5,000+ international medals). Heritage cellars in Maipú are a stone-and-wood masterpiece. Best for: prestige, historical depth.

Pulenta Estate (Luján de Cuyo)

Boutique family estate with one of the most refined tasting experiences in Mendoza. Small production, exceptional Cabernet Franc. Best for: discerning palates.

The hidden ones

Beyond this list, there are wineries we send our travelers to that we won't list publicly — boutique estates that operate by reservation only, where the winemaker pours your tasting personally. Access to those is what private wine tourism really means.
